                                                        RAAH

Text Box: For families and individuals struggling to pay the rent, a serious illness or disability can start a downward spiral into homelessness, beginning with a lost job, depletion of savings to pay for care, and eventual eviction.
Text Box: Background
The Reno Area Alliance for the Homeless (RAAH) is a coalition of human services providers who began meeting in June 2000 to discuss better ways to work together to meet community needs. In February 2001, United Way assumed leadership in facilitating the coalition. RAAH has more than 50 private, public and governmental agencies, as well as individuals, working together to address issues of homelessness in our community.
RAAH includes state agencies, such as the Nevada Housing Division, Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services and the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Local Government entities – City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County, and the School District - participate in the provider meetings as well as the Community Leader meetings.
A large number of nonprofit agencies, including those that address homelessness, substance abuse, mental health, food, housing, literacy, health care, veterans, education and other issues are involved.
